The Schemann Piano Duo - Susanne and Dinis Schemann - was formed in 1985. Not only a musical alliance, but also a married couple, Susanne and Dinis Schemann have now been dedicating themselves exclusively to concert performances and recitals for over 25 years.
The course of their career has been unusual. After winning several national and international youth competitions, they consciously withdrew from the world of competitions. Today, they are considered by many to be among the leading piano duos of our time.
Thus, the German-Portuguese husband-and-wife team is at home in many of the world's most renowned centres of music, at gala events and festivals. They have performed at the Berlin Philharmonie, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, The Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche) in Dresden, the Lake Constance Festival, the Mozart Festival in Chemnitz, the Regent's Building in Bad Kissingen, the Dortmund Opera House and at many other notable locations.
With over 1000 concerts performed in Germany so far, the Schemann Piano Duo has one of the fullest engagement calendars of all chamber music ensembles in Germany. Their performances move audiences to standing ovations and draw the enthusiastic praise of the press.
Their six CD Productions so far released have been highly praised on broadcasts and in renowned music journals.
Their names have appeared in "Who is Who in Germany" since 2005 by virtue of their extraordinary artistic career.
Susanne and Dinis Schemann also enjoy great success as artistic directors of several chamber music series throughout Germany. These concerts have triggered off a genuine "classic boom" (Süddeutsche Zeitung) in their home district. For many years now, subscription seats have been sold out.
At the age of 11, Susanne Schemann, who was born in Ludwigsburg, Württemberg, recorded works by Domenico Scarlatti on disc.
Dinis Schemann, who was born in Coimbra, Portugal, gave his first full evening recital as a 12-year-old.
The Portuguese-German couple studied under renowned professors such as Alfons Kontarsky, Eckart Besch and Günter Louegk, which places Susanne and Dinis Schemann in the tradition of Eduard Erdmann and Walter Gieseking.
